There are places in this world that feel made for moments like this, and Yosemite Valley is one of them. When Arturo reached out to plan a surprise proposal for Jasmine, we knew right away that the grandeur of Yosemite would be the perfect backdrop. From the thundering mist of Yosemite Falls to the wide-open sweep of Cook’s Meadow with Half Dome standing watch in the distance, every corner of this valley carries a sense of wonder that’s hard to put into words.

Yosemite Valley Chapel

Tucked beneath Yosemite’s towering granite walls, the Yosemite Valley Chapel holds the title of oldest standing structure in the park. San Francisco architect Charles Geddes designed it in 1879 in the Carpenter Gothic style. The California State Sunday School Association sponsored the little New England-style church, raising the funds largely through voluntary contributions. The doors opened for the very first time on June 7, 1879 — and the crowd spilled out of every pew. The chapel originally sat near the Four Mile Trail before the congregation moved it to its current home in 1901. In 1973, the National Register of Historic Places welcomed it as the first Yosemite structure to earn that distinction. Today it still hosts weekly worship services — and some of the most breathtaking weddings in the world.

Yosemite's Unique Landscape

The moment Arturo got down on one knee, time seemed to slow down. Jasmine’s surprise and joy were written all over her face. It was the kind of raw, unguarded emotion that you simply can’t stage. After the ring was on her finger, we spent the rest of the golden afternoon wandering through the valley together: past the historic chapel, across the bridges over the Merced River, and through the tall grasses of Cook’s Meadow. Every setting gave us something new and beautiful to work with.
