Nikita and D’Artagnan were a dream to photograph in this landscape. From the moment we started, they were completely at ease with each other — laughing, stealing glances, and moving through the boulders like they’d been coming to the Alabama Hills their whole lives. The cowboy hats were such a perfect touch, giving the whole day a cinematic, sun-soaked Western feel that matched the terrain beautifully. We made our way through Mobius Arch as the clouds shifted overhead, and that ever-changing light — dramatic one moment, soft and golden the next — gave us an incredible variety of images throughout the session.
Walking Through the Sierra Nevadas
Some of my favorite frames from the day are the ones where they forgot I was there entirely. D’Artagnan whispering something that made Nikita burst out laughing, Nikita holding him from behind with the Sierra Nevada stretching out in the distance, the two of them walking hand in hand through the backlit dust as the sun dropped toward the mountains. And then there’s that final silhouette — just their two outlines against the glowing sky — which says everything that needs to be said about why people choose to elope in a place like this.
