Kaylena and David's Wedding Story
Reedley Wedding Photographer
There’s a version of a backyard wedding that’s a little rough around the edges, and then there’s the version Kaylena and David pulled off in Reedley. The wedding was warm, personal, beautifully decorated, and an absolute blast from start to finish. A big shady tree anchoring the ceremony space, a cookie bar, a handmade wine glass rack, a shoe game that had the crowd howling, and a dance floor that did not stop. This was a wedding that felt like the people throwing it.
Getting Ready
Kaylena started her morning on the couch with her bridesmaids. The girls all in robes, the room already full of laughter. The details were lovely. Delicate earrings, heels photographed in black and white, a bouquet with real presence. But the moments that stood out were the quiet ones. Kaylena held her mother’s hands, her mom holding hers right back. The kind of image that doesn’t need any explanation.
When it was time to reveal the dress, the bridesmaids gathered around her and the reaction was everything. Group hugs followed immediately.
The Ceremony
The ceremony took place under that big, generous tree. The kind that provides real shade and a sense of occasion at the same time, which is exactly what you want for a Central Valley wedding. Kaylena walked down the aisle and David was waiting, dressed in blue, and you could see how ready he was for this moment.
Under the altar, Kaylena laughed. She laughed looking at David during the vows, which is one of my favorite things that happens at wedding. When someone is so happy they can’t hold it in even at the most serious part of the day. Her mother hugged her right there at the altar while her father watched. David dipped her the moment they walked back down the aisle together as husband and wife, which set the tone for the entire rest of the day.
Portraits
With the ceremony behind them, we moved through the property for portraits. The white roses used throughout the day made for gorgeous foreground framing — there’s a shot of Kaylena and David kissing with roses blurred in front of them that is one of my favorites from the whole gallery. Kaylena posed solo with her bouquet, confident and radiant. David helped with her dress train while she walked away from the camera, and there’s something about that small act of care that says a lot.
They also found a stairwell landing that gave us a beautiful overhead perspective — the two of them looking out over it, then a backside shot walking away together. Small pockets of a backyard can be remarkable when the light is right and the people are in love.
The Reception
The reception details were thoughtful and personal throughout. The tableware was carefully set, the flowers were lush, and the cookie bar was, by all evidence, a massive hit — there’s a frame of a family member loading up a plate that captures the spirit of the whole afternoon perfectly. A little girl crawled across the chairs. Another little one marched right up to the DJ booth to request a song. A guest pulled off a handstand on the dance floor. The whole scene was joyful chaos in the best possible sense.
The speeches were a full event on their own. The best man gave his speech. The maid of honor had the room with her. Kaylena’s mom brought it home, and then Kaylena clinked glasses with her and hugged her maid of honor so hard you could feel it through the camera.
The First Dance and Beyond
Their first dance was tender right up until it was interrupted — in the best way — by family spilling onto the floor. Kaylena danced with her dad. David danced with his mom. Then the shoe game happened, which tells you everything you need to know about a couple in about four minutes, and this one did not disappoint.
Kaylena changed into her evening look for the second half of the night and came back out ready to party. The “Better Together” sign glowed in the background. The bouquet toss went off. And the dance floor stayed packed until the very end.
Kaylena and David - Thank You!
A backyard wedding in Reedley with a great tree, a cookie bar, and a room full of people who genuinely love you is pretty hard to beat. Congratulations to the happy couple.
