Why Tehachapi Makes for a Perfect Wedding Day

Most people don’t fully expect Tehachapi. You drive up out of the valley heat and suddenly the air gets cooler. The hills roll out in every direction. The sky opens up wide. And the landscape — green on one side, golden on the other — looks almost painted. As a Tehachapi wedding photographer, I’ve worked in a lot of beautiful places. But Tehachapi in the summer holds something truly special. Madeleine and Jeremy chose Oak Tree Country Club for their celebration. And between the venue, the surrounding hills, and the big granite boulders scattered across the property, we had an incredible setting to work with all day long.

Getting Ready — Tehachapi Wedding Photographer Behind the Scenes

The morning started quietly and beautifully. Madeleine sat in a brown leather chair by the window, already in her dress, with the light falling across her just right. Hair stylist Bri Rook and makeup artist Stephany Prater kept the room warm and calm. Her mother sat on the arm of the chair right next to her. That moment — just the two of them together — was a picture worth the whole trip.

Meanwhile, Jeremy stood across the way while his best man fixed his tie and cufflinks. The best man grinned the whole time like he already knew what kind of day this was going to be. And then there were the details. Madeleine’s sister hand-made the ceramic vases used throughout the wedding through her company G.G. Ceramics Co. Each one held fresh blooms. Each one told a little story about the kind of care that went into every corner of this day.

The Ceremony at Cub Lake

The ceremony took place at Cub Lake right on the Oak Tree Country Club property. And it delivered. Madeleine walked down the aisle on her father’s arm. Jeremy waited at the altar, flanked by lush floral arrangements in creamy whites and soft greens. Those colors felt completely at home against the Tehachapi hills behind them. The vows rang out clearly. The ring slipped on. And then Madeleine fidgeted with it quietly — just for a moment — in what looked like happy disbelief. That small, real moment stands out as one of my favorite images from the whole day. Furthermore, the first kiss was tender and unhurried. Exactly the way a first kiss should feel after a long day of waiting.

Portraits in the Hills — Tehachapi Wedding Photographer at Work

After the ceremony, Tehachapi really showed off. We moved through the trees surrounding the club and walked out into the open hillside where the grass split perfectly between green and gold. We climbed up onto a large granite boulder with the hills stacked up in the background behind them. Jeremy dipped Madeleine in the middle of a field. They laughed walking through the trees. She stretched her arms around him for a kiss while he leaned against a rock. As a Tehachapi wedding photographer, this is the kind of session I live for. Two people completely themselves in a landscape that matches their energy perfectly. Then golden hour arrived. Madeleine led Jeremy by the hand through tall grass. They swayed together. Her veil floated over them while she laughed up at him. Big sky. Long light. Everything glowing.

The Reception

Inside, the handmade ceramic vases from Madeleine’s sister sat on every table. Each one held flowers and sat next to personal stationery details that made the room feel warm and carefully thought through. The cake from Denene Aguilar at The Sugar Flower topped with fresh strawberries looked almost too good to cut. They cut it anyway. Then the speeches took over. Madeleine’s father had the whole room laughing. Her sister gave a speech that clearly meant everything. Jeremy’s brother raised a toast and glasses went up across every table. And then an aunt’s husband said something during his turn that made her completely fall apart — in the best way. That moment brought the house down.

The Dance Floor

DJ Mark Perry for Freestyle Events kept the energy high from the very first dance. Jeremy spun Madeleine across the floor and she laughed the whole way through. Kids ran laps around the adults. Someone tossed a little girl into the air while the grown-ups danced around them. Madeleine tossed her bouquet. She danced with her sister and the kids. And she laughed at Jeremy for most of the night. As a Tehachapi wedding photographer, those are the moments I chase all day — pure joy in motion with no performance in it at all.
